Re: Cycles!128 update! you race with full knobbies.... theres a high possibility! 12/14 scooter tires are fairly cheap....and worth it. Inside the building is like ice

Re: Cycles!128 update! i dont know about "ICE" ,judging from the amount of rubber on the floor from last year people were getting alot of grip in there...but street tires are the way to go.scooter tires are pretty inexpensive.other more race type tires are available but more money.we plan on having tires in stock for any last minute decision makers.not sure what yet,but ask and i will do my best to get them.(just dont ask on friday nov 7!) we're looking to be as accommodating as possible and will have parts in stock like levers, tires, tube, or anything else you might need-let me know in advance and i will have it stocked! all we ask in return is-you guess it-canned goods!!with the economy issues going on right now, alot -if not most- funding for shelters and food banks is disappearing daily. so hook us up with as much as you can. we are gathering raffle prizes daily for your efforts. attached is a flyer we are passing around,so please print it and give it out to all interested!

| Re: Cycles!128 update! This is going to sound backwards, but for this event you don't want proper 'race' tires. They need heat to work, and you just won't be able to build any between the cold pavement and November air. That's part of what was giving some of us trouble indoors while others were railing it. Cheapie street tires are designed to work at lower temps. Sure, you get less grip than a race tire that's up to temp, but you get boatloads more grip than a cold race tire. If you really wanna drop some coin, Bridgestone and Sava make 12" rain tires, I think Sava also makes 10" rains... They would be the ultimate tire as they are crazy soft, and designed to grip when cold. You're going to have to order from Europe and pain through the nose for shipping to get any in time though...

Re: Cycles!128 update! if you get your tire psi properly set then you should have no issues. we used tt90 dunlops last year and they hooked up excellent. they heated up,we got 15%psi increase out of them and had 0 problems.if you dont fiddle around w/tire psi then they may not work to your satisfaction. most any tire without big swirly knobs should be fine.

I'll still wager something like a Pirelli SL26, which is a fast wearing scooter tire will be easier to make work than TT91s if you're starting without prior pressure data. Anyone on Savas... all I can suggest is to up the pressure, (30psi cold) and cross your fingers. :P

Re: Cycles!128 update! and you wont need knobbies to get up the hill this year! we covered the whole hill in cement mix-by hand- and it looks awsome.a couple of my guys busted their humps out there from 9am to 7pm the other day.tough job.its amazing how steep the hill really is when you try to walk up it. we molded a little kicker jump up near the top where one developed at the end of the day last year.hasnt been ridden up yet so i cant tell ya how it is.we're letting it set up really well before we give it a go.

Re: Cycles!128 update! I know .., but if we were ever to run it backwards like Tom / Jay said ..., I don't think we would be able to climb up that little zig zag section we go down now with the stockers .

Re: Cycles!128 update! Can't run that backwards. The warehouse would run fine, though the current way is much better. The stockers would PROBABLY make it up the zig zag, but everyone would be in a world of hurt coming down the steep hill. If you didn't wildly bottom out people would get in the heat of a battle and be jumping off it left and right.. it's be all bad no matter how you cut it. What might be nice would be a plywood transition ramp for the 50s to allow them to get a good head of steam before they hit the incline. This way they won't bottom out and go all hokey by trying to generate a ton of speed on the flat then hitting a 50 degree ramp at 4 mph.
