Soon, very soon. I want to see my NSR get dusted by the ZBs. LOL

Hmmmm. I told them '10 X1" banjos' but I think they just ordered banjos for the Ducati Brembos since my local MC shop didn't have any bolts listed specifically as stand alone Brembo bolts. Is the Ducati Brembo banjo bolts the same as the "10mmX1.0P"?

The brembos take 10mmX1.0 Pitch or 10X1. Your nissin stuff takes 10mmX1.25 Pitch, but you should already have banjos off your existing Nissin parts you can reuse, correct?

Since those calipers are off a ducati app, your MC shop is correct.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

I got a message regarding the Hurricane clip ons and how they mounted securely to the front end and decided that this info would actually be beneficial for others here to read as well:

I was stressing quite a bit before regarding how to secure the triple clamp when I ordered the Hurricane clip ons but Hurricane thought of it ahead of me. The original set up on the pre 95s are from top down:

1. Clip on - bolted onto the top of the fork tube with a smaller bolt used to center the clip on to the triple
2. Triple clamp - sandwiched in between clip on and fork tube that has a recessed spot for the triple to sit on
3. Fork tube
4. Lower triple - clamped down the fork tube mid way for support

What the hurricane triple does is this:

1. Hurricane spacer - bolted onto the top of the fork tube (replaces the original clip on spacing)
2. Triple clamp - sandwiched in between Hurricane spacer/bolt and fork tube that has a recessed spot for the triple to sit on
3. Hurricane clip on - Clamps on to the upper section of the fork leg. (Does not really provide any structural support for holding the forks in place
4. Fork Tube
5. Lower triple - clamped down the fork tube mid way for support

So the trick is the upper spacer which looks like it's part of the fork leg. I was quite impressed and very happy to see that I didn't have to fab up any kind of spacer on my own to get the Hurricane clip ons to work.

Yes, I do have my Nissen banjo bolts still. I think... LOL

Thanks for confirming the Duc stuff works!

I see. The chrome spacer looks like the actual fork leg. I thought he just had the fork leg exposed above the fork's top plate and nothing else. Thanks for the info!

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Battery? You should be able to buy it at any Kragen (or alike); 12v motorcycle battery. Fwiw, that is what I used for the Yerbicati

I have a 12v trickle charger you can borrow, if need be

Why wait for Service Honda for an exhaust crush gasket. Order from TCR and get it the next day .....usually in stock

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Road Rider said they've never seen a battery like it before and had to order it. Its coming in on Wednesday hopefully. Should I have gotten an even smaller 12v battery if I could? The OEM/JDM battery size is pretty large considering the size of the tail.

TCR didn't have the exhaust gasket in stock.

If you have time next week maybe you can come by and help me tune the bike? I may bring it to Stockton on the 20th to test it out on track.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Last night was wiring harness time. The previous owner of the bike told me that the bike is a NSR80 Frame with a NSR50 Motor from Japan. I thought he was just misinformed a bit until I finally took a closer look at the wiring harness on the bike. Since there are no English manuals around to help me, I basically opened up the wiring harness and traced back wire for wire where everything went. When I got the bike I had a couple of wiring harness plugs just dangling there. I have confirmed that they don’t connect to anything which makes me believe that the wiring harness may be from an NSR80. I’m documenting what I found out in Excel and hopfefully will make it easier for someone else to read up on in the future.

Anyways, I was hoping you guys could help me here. The 2004 NSR50 has 5 wires that my 92 has as well that comes from the stator/lighting coil:

Loose single wires:
Black/Red
Blue/Yellow

3wire Plug
Green
White
Yellow

All 5 wires above match up to the wiring harness 1 to 1. However, there is an additional 6 plug wiring harness (5 wires only coming out of it) with an additional 2 loose wires that comes out from the lower section of the motor pictured below:

Loose single wires:
Light Green/Black
Faded Orange(or possibly Red)/White

6Plug with only 5 wires:
Yellow/Red
Green/Orange
White/Red
Cyan/White
Red/Blue

The gauges that are on the bike has the following indicator lights:
Neutral Light
Turn Signal Indicator
Oil Light
Temp Light

I have been able to trace back all of those wires from the gauges back to their corresponding sensors on the bike/wiring harness with the exception of the Neutral light where it exits out and dangles by the 5 wires noted above that the 2004 NSR has as well. In short, everything works (or should work when I put it back together) with the exception of the Neutral indicator light.

So the question of the day is, does anyone know what this huge plug of wires coming from the lower section of the engine is? It is literally dangling all by itself from the engine and I can’t take off the star screw that’s on there since it’s a security screw and I don’t have the bit to use for it yet. From what I have traced and documented, everything on the bike mounts up just fine to the motor and sensors and everything should work just fine without having to connect that large 6 plug harness into anything. But I am just curious to know what the heck is it. Anyone ever seen this second wiring harness come from the engine before?

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

DID you get this bike from a long haired guy up hwy 41 in the hills of oakhurst just north of fresno? If so that is the same place I bought my YSR. He started the NSR for me after about 50 kicks but said it was just in the garage for a while. Tried to sell it to my brother for $2,000 and I laughed at him Whether or not this is the person I cant wait to see the finished product

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

I think he had long hair. Asian dude and his place was literally down the street from the casino?

I drained the gas and changed the fluids, left the original spark plug in there and the bike kicked over on the second kick for me when I brought it home. I saw the rust in the tank and told him not to try to kick it over since I didn't want that junk heading into the carbs. I would have backed down from the deal too but by the time I got there, I spent about $100 in gas in my truck so I said screw it. The rest is history in this thread.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Yes it was down the street from the casino and it is the SAME bike i looked at. I picked up the YSR in February from the same guy and have since exchanged the engine to a lifan 150cc 4 stroke. I still have the original YSRengine and it has every mod except the bigger carb or a larger cylinder. I hope that thing works out for ya! the build is looking great. I think we should have a street legal mid-size ride some time in california. I know another guy in the fresno area (where I currently live) and we might be willing to travel to ride with some NSR, YSR or other mid-size bretheren! Could be fun let me know what you think.

I was thinking the same thing, well at least that one of the wires would a be a neural indicator. That would leave 4 wires from the engine unaccounted for.

Temp sensor is on the head
Oil indicator light goes to the 2stroke oil injector bottle

Maybe transmission oil level?
Another temp sensor?

I remember running into a build thread in Japanese and the guy took a picture of his Japanese manual showing the wiring stuff. I'm still looking through my book marks to see if I can find it.

I'm hoping it is a secret turbo switch that needs to be wired up...

Cool. Yeah I've seen your threads and videos. Pretty sweet.

If all goes well and the bike is up and running by next week, I plan on joining gstegman and others here. Well if its next week instead of this week at least:

Calling all NorCal mini riders!

Next week will work better for me. I still need to figure out where to mount my oil cooler and get a new sprocket.

On my '94 NSR50, that goes to the ignition key switch.

Do you mind taking a quick pic of the connection on your 94 when you have a chance please? My ignition key wires goes to the main wiring harness near the ignition coil inside the main section of the frame.

The mystery plug is definitely long enough to make its way to the gauges.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Well some more searching online and I found this page:

Translation result for http://pita.paffy.ac/bike/nsr50/howtoracer/

http://pita.paffy.ac/bike/images/nsr...toracer/l2.jpg

Basically shows that the wires go to some kind of "sensor" but doesn't quite tell me what the sensor is for...
