Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project OK big update today. After being away from home for a month and waiting for parts/work to be done, the project sat for quite a while. That is until today... I was able to finally pick up my parts from Sik Industries yesterday after work. I got the frame, swingarm, triple, and fairing stay powdercoated with the wrinkle finish flat black. I was really happy with the finish. It gives the bike's finish a little bit of texture and doesn't look like a regular plane jane flat black powdercoat/paint job. I also got the wheels powedercoated in a gold color along with the rearsets and foot controls. It's a close look to the BBS gold wheel finishes and was layered with a clear coat for additional protection. Once I picked up the parts, I drove down to Evolution Suspension where Rob took care of me and removed and installed my new wheel bearings in about 30minutes while I waited. He even threw the tire mounting for free! Unfortunately the little NSR50 wheels wouldn't fit on his wheel balancer. So after dinner and drinking a beer with a friend, I finally had time to unload the truck and lay out the parts I needed for the night. My goal was to have a rolling chassis before I went to bed. ![]() Well I didn’t get to bed until around 3AM or so since I had a little trouble with installing the tapered steering head bearings at the start. I didn’t notice it when I took it apart that there was one last washer if you will that was stuck on the lower triple. So after spending about 30minutes slowly banging on it with a screwdriver and sledge hammer, I was able to finally get started. Below is pic of the packaging and little did I know at the time that the CRF50 steering head bearings fit the NSR50. That would have saved me some $ if I just picked up a set of CRF50 bearings from eBay. ![]() The race heads were installed by using the old ones as my little tapping tool to press them into the frame with the hammer. I also used the same thing to push down the lower bearing since for some reason the lower section of the shaft was thicker. ![]() ![]() All buttoned up... ![]()

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project Next up was the upper triple clamp. I remembered to install the ignition key cylinder beforehand since you can't unscrew it out with the triple installed n the frame. ![]() ![]() Then it was time for the swingarm to be installed. I put a little grease in the swingarm shaft since the old bolt was a little rusted inside before. ![]() The KYB shock went in next. Thanks again PainterDude! ![]() Then the front forks were next. It was finally starting to look like a bike once again! ![]()

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project Ask and you shall receive. Thanks to you and Brad again for sourcing me the parts. I couldn't stop last night and it was probably closer to midnight or 1am by then as I sat there staring at the bike at different angles every few minutes. I looked at the pile of parts and decided I wanted to mock up the Brembos to see how they looked on the bike. Japanese instructions... Hand tightened to see how it mounts Front Brembos were next. Same 2 piston caliper with the GCraft adapter. Whoo hoo more Japanese instructions. Test fitting again along with the front wheel.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project I blame the new factory bolts and the green lock tite caked on the threads. I test fitted the holes by using the older rusted bolts first and everything screwed in fine. I then start to screw in the new bolts and they start to bind halfway. So I start cranking at it since I knew the locktite was there. Then at the very end, the new bolts wouldn't sit flush with the rotor so I decide to back the bolts out at that point. Nope, the bolt wouldnt back out. So I had the brilliant idea of using my breaker bar since I was getting tired trying to take out the bolt at this point. Crank the bolt out in reverse and SNAAAP! I was like WTF. I was in shock, I wanted to take out the rest of the other bolts to see what had happened and the 2nd bolt snaps too!!! WTF!!! 2 broken bolts in one wheel!!! I was so freakin livid!!!!! I want to say that 2 of those bolts siezed up because of all the locktite that came on there but at the same time blame myself for cranking on it so hard in the first place to get it to sit flush.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project Nice! Looking forward to seeing it complete *thumbup* ps, now go to OSH and get a couple of hose clamps and properly secure your rear shock reservoir to the sub-frame Fyi, I cut up a rubber hose into 2 seperate pieces, purchased from Kragen. Then placed the 2 pieces between the reservoir and sub-frame, installed and tightened the clamps

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project LOL, you don't like my extra long zip tie install? Actually I really need to figure out how to mount the rear shock reservoir soon. I was plannin on using the stock rear fender/under liner that came with the NSR but it gets in the way of the rear shock reservoir right now and pushed the reservoir out to the side, which in turn gets in the way of the NSF tail. I didn't think that would be an issue before so now I have to come up with a creative way to fab up a place to mount the battery, CDI, and other stuff under the tail and still leave room for the reservoir and bracket for the exhaust on the other side. ![]()

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project Thanks Shawn. Things are going a lot slower than I expected. I thought I had organized my parts a lot better than I had. That plus I had friends bdays/parties to attend all weekend long starting from Thursday till Sunday. I wanted to work on the bike but I was soo daym tired I didn't want to mess anything up from rushing things (see broken bolts example above - Mount Engine (done but need to torque down) - Order new coolant house (one needs to be replaced) - Wait for exhaust pipe gasket to come in from Honda - Wait for battery to come in from parts store - Wait for Brembo banjo bolts (I forgot to order them earlier) - Go to a friends shop and have them make me a custom stainless steal rear brake line (as long as they have the fittings that work on the NSR) - Replenish all fluids in the bike, oil, coolant, 2stroke oil, and brakes once the banjo bolts come in. - Lube up the throttle/oil injector cable as well as the clutch cable - Install new petcock assembly and make sure the POR15 stuff didn’t clog up the drain pipe. - Clean up original wiring harness and make a diagram that defines each colored wire. - Re-install wiring harness after its been cleaned checked - Install new chain - Reassemble the rear sets and pegs. Need to clean out pivot hole in rearsets since the powdercoat now gets in the way of the bolts. - Wire up the hand controls for the lights and figure out how to get them all to fit on the Hurricane clip ons with ASV levers that don’t like signal light controls. - Fab up some kind of support for the NSF tail with the foam - Fab up a mount for the battery, CDI, and other stuff that fit on the tail - Fab up mounts for the tail lights, plates, and signals - Kick start bike over and hope everything still runs - Once the bike is up and running, I’ll install the new Takagawa speedo/tach I got and hopefully it works on 2stroke motors. - Put around town for the next couple of months on the ugly plastics and then send off to paint when it starts to rain.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project Keep in mind you need a 10mmX1.0P banjo for the Brembo, and a 10mmX1.25P for the Nissin stuff. I think I told you this, but if you force the wrong size bolts, it can be a very expensive mistake.
