Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Actually my ZX10 master isnt too bad... slightly soft, but not as bad as you would expect. But the brembo im getting will make it very crisp.

I could be wrong, but it looks like the mount is a older (GSXR) mount. If you have the loot opt for the raidal mount.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

What is the big idea of putting Brembo Calipers on the NSR anyway?? I've been racing mine for YEARS and have had no problem with the braking on mine... I think the brakes are SWEET stock and with a SB line, they are killer! I just think a 2 or 4 piston caliper on a NSR is overkill. Yeah sure it looks SWEET and it has the cool factor in it, but do you REALLY need it?? The RS125's use that same caliper and the brakes are too much for that bike as well!!!

The JDM NSR looks sweet, I wish I could get my hands on one!
Does your gas tank still have the fuel vent thing in there?? I've been trying to find a fuel vent to fit into my 04 tank for a while now and no luck. Do you want to sale yours??

Mainly Bling* factor. I dont have one but one day i will just for that fact. Your right though, SS lines and a good set of pads is really all you need.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

If you have to replace a caliper, the Brembo 2 pot opposing piston caliper is actually cheaper even if the G-craft adapter is in the equation as well.

A 2 pot opposing piston caliper is going to perform better hands down over the current Nissin 2 pot setup.

The 4 pots will not fade.

Are they needed? That's up to the rider.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Do I NEED it for this particular NSR? No.

Would I NEED it for a track NSR? Probably not.

I was just jealous of the ZB and Monkey guys running around town with their blinged out 50s that I wanted to join in.

In reality, the main reason I want to move over to a Brembo or other master cylinder is that the one that came on the bike is rashed up. I just wanted one that had the look and feel of new. I wasn't ready to spend $ on the calipers yet hence the questions regarding which mc works with stock setup. That plus I want an aftermarket lever for the additional "bling" factor.

I could probably spend some time sanding and polishing the original master cylinder setup but I would have the same issues after that about the aftermarket levers not fitting 100% like in the picture I posted above. That is, unless someone here can point me to a set of aftermarket ASV or CRG equivalent levers that fit perfectly in the oem NSR50 brake master cylinder perch.

Hey Pierce,

Do you think you can do me a favor and take a pic of the lever a little closer. That looks like it may be my best option so far but is just slightly a little more than what I wanted to pay for something that was non "brembo".

Also I found this on ebay. 12mm. Think it's too small for the the NSR caliper?

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Don't get caught up in the whole brembo thing. Nissin is a very good company for brakes. I bet if you talked to P3Racer he would be able to tell you all about which levers will work with the master cylinder. It seems like a pretty universal type lever. Plus what is the hang up with levers? Are you planning on breaking alot of them? I will see if I can get a picture for you when I get home.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

The clutch lever broke during disassembly and I had purchased an ASV lever and perch per the minigpx review. I had just wanted to make sure that what ever master cylinder i get that I could also get a matching brake lever that worked without any modification.

I could probably clean, sand, sand even more, and polish the original master cylinder i have but as you can see, there are no aftermarket levers that fit the stock nsr master/perch perfectly. I'm looking to make the hand controls look like they came matched as opposed to something that looks like it was half put together.

I'll PM P3Racer and see also what he says about the availability of the levers. Thanks in advance for taking the pics.

Ah that makes more sense on why you were so concerned about the levers. I will see what I can do.

Thanks Pierce. And I know Nissen isn't a bad company. Heck I'm still running their OEM stuff on my big bike.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

So next update. I decided to do the electrolysis rust removal technique on my rusted tank even though I already bought the POR-15 complete kit. I went to Target and was looking for the Arm&Hammer Super WashingSoda per the instructions on the web but they didn’t have it. Thanks to reading Paunchy’s ZB thread though, I knew that I needed Sodium Carbonate so I went to the pool maintenance section and found some Sodium Carbonate. It’s the stuff I guess that ups the PH levels in your pool. Anyways, here are a couple of pics. The pic I took here was about 5-10mins after I got the thing running and you can see the rust already start to come up. This morning the top opening of the tank had a nice thick layer of bubbled up rust that I need to clean off when I get home. I’ll probably change out the solution every day or so until this weekend when I have time to run the whole POR-15 setup on it.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

If I did the 04 OEM parts, then I would just end up with another run of the mill NSR. I'm trying to set out to make this one a little bit more unique.

But that doesn't mean I'll pass up a fully modded 04 that has parts I can transfer over if the price is right.

Mike, do you have pics of your tail section and how your tail lights look with the NSF/RCV tail? I'm concerned I may have to go with aftermarket tail lights since the NSF tail points up so high above the sub frame.

Hey guys I'll post pics today, Right now I'm in the middle of my project. I have been riding with the body kit on but I haven't finalized the positioning yet.

Right now part of my problem is I don't know how to modify the subframe to fit it into the tail so it is the stock body with a few inches of subframe hanging out.

One of my ideas when I do get a chance to bend the rear or cut it some how to fit under the tail is to put a semi-traslucent layer and have red LEDs light up when I apply my brakes. This will not only look very cool but make it VERY clear when I am slowing down to cars behind me.

Pics will come soon.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Mike, yeah any details you can post about the tail would be great. If you're feeling generous, would you mind taking pics of where your battery is now mounted as well? I'm still waiting for my NSF tail and by looking at pics, I may have clearance issues as to how tall the battery will be.

I thought about running LED bars as well but was concerned with the non factory look that they may give off to the cops. Around here in California, one of the reasons they can pull you over is for non OEM lights and wanted to see if I can find a setup that would close to something out of a factory as much as possible.

For sure I definitely will not be running clear lensed tail lights unless the LEDs when turned on can make the entire thing look red.

Here is a pic I found online when looking at ideas and had found a similar tail light pictured but would ideally want something that conformed to the rear tail a little bit better.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Thanks Pierce. Those look nice installed.

P3 noted that master cylinder will fit the 04 GSXR 600. ASV sells a lever for $125. So at that price, the Brembo setup is looking for attractive to me.

Re: Street Plated NSR50 Project

Update for the day. I picked up my front forks from RJP yesterday and got a nice present from PD/Full Tilt Kustom on BARF waiting for me at my doorstep. I owe this guy big time. Ray had to heat up one of the forks near the seal to get the rusted old parts out so that caused my paintjob to bubble. I'll see how dedicated I am this weekend to see if I can sand and touch up the area.

The electrolysis is pretty much done for now since I've ran out of coat hangers to sacrifice. I'll use the POR-15 stuff this weekend to get out the rest of the rust and crap off the inside of the tank.
