Re: My NSR50 to NXR120 conversion!

Yeah... we'll see how it goes and I'll make changes from there! More on that in a few days!

Re: My NSR50 to NXR120 conversion!

How would the Dynometer know the difference between a 12 inch wheel, and a 17 inch wheel? A 12 inch wheel would almost be like shorter gearing...? Wouldn't the only way to compare be to test before and after motor work? ---T

And I'll put it on the dyno with the BBR kit, after this winter and the stroker kit and race cam, I'll put it back on and see what gains it made.
Trailbikes will have a 130cc+ Bore kit out soon if the BBR kit doesn't get you where you are going.

Re: My NSR50 to NXR120 conversion!

Tony I'm not sure how a dyno works, but I'm sure they can plug in a tire size and the dyno will measure the HP from that... Again, I'm not a dyno tech or anything, but as much money as those things cost, I'm sure you can type in what size tire/wheel you are running and it will change the settings??
And yeah it would make since to do a dyno run with the motor stock, but I didn't have the piston to do it and didn't want to buy one just to get a dyno reading. I'll do a dyno run with the BBR120 kit in there now, and after the race cam and stroke, I'll do another dyno run!

Z... how did you find out about the trail bikes 130 kit?? Is it a stroker and top end?? Got any links?

Re: My NSR50 to NXR120 conversion!

I'm sure what ever dyno shop you take it to will now how to set everything up for you.

I'm going to buy this and test it on the NSR for 1/4 mile times but won't rely on the hp rating since the hp on the NSR is already so low :

Re: My NSR50 to NXR120 conversion!

I raced the bike for the first time on Sunday (8/17) and it worked GREAT!
I had no problems other then my gearing was off a bit.. The 4 stroke was so easy to ride, and the GP shift pattern was alot better for track use!
I entered 2 classes, our F1 and F2 class. Each class has 2 ten lap sprint races. My first race with the bike, I came in 2nd place after a crappy start and a few mistakes with the shifting. After about 5 laps, I felt good with everything and started to work on the engine braking feel.
The rest of the day I came in 1st place! The bike is now much more fun to ride and since I only used 4th and 5th gear thru the whole track, I was able to keep my mind on the track and where I needed to be.

I didn't get any onboard video like I wanted to at the track, but I did get a short onboard video from the other day when I was trying to figure out the jetting, and gearing.

Here is the onboard video of one run down my street and back in the garage before the FiveO stops by!

And here is a "walk around" video I took to show what it sounds like, and the front mounts/exhaust work that was done.

The motor conversion was a huge hit, and I wish I would of done this a long time ago! I'll be racing this bike at BeaveRun out in PA, a longer faster track, on Sept 6th. I'll remember my tank mount and will get some video of the bike on the track out during practice.

Re: My NSR50 to NXR120 conversion!

It looks great. Congrats on the 1st place finishes.

If you would have to guess what the new top speed of this thing is if the gearing was correct, do you think you would hit 80mph or more on it?

I have no clue... I'm sure I might be able to with a smaller rear sprocket!

Re: My NSR50 to NXR120 conversion!

Update, after a race at BeaveRun, in PA, last weekend I had some problems with my jetting and gearing. Since BeaveRun is a lot longer track then the last one I raced at, the bike was WOT a lot more then before, and I had some hesitation at the top end.
I think I found the right jetting after I got home, a 45 pilot and 112 main seems to be the ticket for now. I'm going to get a XR200 carb (26mm) and test things out with that for next season and with the Kitaco head and race cam.

I also need to order at least a 38, 39, 40 and 41 rear sprockets for this bike to dial in the setting for the tracks I race at. A 16/42 just didn't cut it with the long straights, but was great in the tight sections of the track

I think heaver front fork springs are in store for me, as the added weight of the XR100 motor puts a lot of weight on the front end and you can feel it push out on the track.
My front tire is roasted, and my rear looks good, despite some power slides coming out of some of the turns! That is one of the other great things about the 4stroke over the 2stroke... when you slide the rear tire; it is a lot more controlled and not as snappy as when the 2 stroke would start to slide. Much easier to ride!

More pic's and onboard video out on the track coming soon!!!
