Re: hydraulic hand brake....

Why not use an untouched brake master, and place both lines on the same banjo bolt using a taller banjo? They make banjo bolts designed for two lines for front brake applications so the parts exist off the shelf, with bleeders even.

Re: hydraulic hand brake....

that's a good idea kurlon, but i think that when the rear pedal isn't being touched you would just be pushing fluid into the other master ( at the foot) you need some way to make one line a one way valve when the other is actuated for that to work i would imagine anyway

Re: hydraulic hand brake....

Heres the unit i have from GPTechllc.com I don't stunt but do miniRR and this is truely the ticket for ETREME late braking efforts and shaving some speed mid-corner. I guess if you needed that rear brake for stunting it would just fine as GPTech is selling these as a stunters product. Installs on any rear NISSIN rear master cyclinder right where the resevior used to tie in.

That's a sweet setup. I would think that a hydraulic handbrake would be too touchy for stunting a pitbike because they are so light, but I could be wrong.

Re: hydraulic hand brake....

This rig comes with a Brembo master cylinder and the trick little master cylinder cover complete with lever and all the other goods to make it work.

Touchy............ no not really its very mellow along with being very predictable.

Its sort of a GPTech version of the "Recluse" thing.

I can't even understand why any motorcycle would not have a left hand rear brake lever setup???????????????????????????????????

I'll be hooking up all my bikes over the next few months either hyd or cable operated systems. Imagine how easy it would be to turn right on a dirt bike while being able to use the rear brake

Re: hydraulic hand brake....

Okay i snapped a few more pics today. The question of the fluid preasure is simple. The bar mounted resivoir becomes the main resivoir and any pressure just stop there. fluid can only compress so much and its very little. You will not even notice it with your foot operated lever, on a full sized bike the hand lever or thumb brakes will usually not lock up the rear wheel.

Again i'm no stunter but any way you can make a left hand actuated rear brake unit has got to be cool, ever seen a bicycle with a rear brake lever? No. So why should a motorcycle?

Doesn't almost every bicycle have a rear hand brake??? The only ones that I know of that don't have a rear hand brake are the bikes that have coaster brakes...

Re: hydraulic hand brake....

I think he is talking about a foot lever... but what he forgot is that bicycle have cranks that rotate, plus they NEVER have a clutch lever to worry about. That is why they are different. I am not saying change is bad, I am all for it and even contemplated a thumb lever for my bike.

Re: hydraulic hand brake....

you know i meant a foot operated rear brake lever

Man it took me about 10 laps to get the hang of the rear hand brake lever and i only use the clutch for starting out of the pit or off the line for a race. no need to use it for shifting while racing. I can only imagine how cool its gonna be to have a rear hand operated brake lever on my DR350 and some other toys

No, I had no idea you were talking about a foot operated rear brake. I would call that a petal. A brake lever, to me, is something that is hand operated. Therein lies the confusion...

Re: hydraulic hand brake....

it was just sort of a joke

of coarse peddal bikes don't have a rear foot operated brake lever and so motorcycles should not have them either imho.

My peddal bikes have the front brake lever on the right side and rear brake on the left side, most bikes come with it opposite of a motorcycle! I started changing mine about 14 years ago and when ever i buy a new bike.

Anyhow i really do like the rear hand brake options that are plentiful these days

I never understood why the bicycle front brake was on the opposite side either. But the reason more motorcycles don't have rear hand brakes, and instead have foot brakes, is because most have clutches. Bicycles don't have clutches.

Re: hydraulic hand brake....

yeah well i understand............ but its still lame to not have a dual set-up on yer left bar

If you can't use it then how are you going to use both your hands and feet to brake, shift, throttle etc....

I really do like the thumb brakes and now these kind of options for the rear brake.

Balance is so crutial from your feet on the pegs for RR and in the dirt sliding for MX

like i said anything that makes you faster or more stuntable is a good thing
