If I am wrong and you are right, then there should be one hell of a recall issue on MX bikes on the market. They all do it. Yes they come lean from the factory, but if there is no air flowing to them, they get red.

apples to oranges?

you guys know you are comparing dirtybikes to f1 cars right? I've never seen a dirtybike header glow but they do get hot so they might.

Re: Glowing Red crf150r Pipe

Today I fell on my bros 143 w/ T-4, oh header to lower leg, omg worst pain ever, stung for like 4 hours, I tried aloe and bacitracin, didn't help, my leg looks weird, maybe it's like a 2nd degree burn or something? I can't imagine a 250f glowing red burn.

Re: Glowing Red crf150r Pipe

yea wear shorts an just brush your leg very quickly against the head pipe when doing a practice start an instant 3rd degree burn will result its so hot it feels cold for a few minutes ive done this an wasnt very fun but yes if you DONT see it glow after a few minutes of idle at night you should probally rejet it cause then you are too lean

Sorry but your info is wrong... unless your referring to diesels where leaner is colder and richer is hotter! On a gasoline engine leaner is hotter and rich is colder... And it all has to do with material or the exhaust and thickness of the material. A mild steel chinese exhaust will not glow red at idle no matter how lean it is or how long it has been idling. There are many factors that control whether it will glow or not. Have you ever notice how some exhausts are "burn the skin" hot almost instantly while other systems on the same bike will stay cool for 30 seconds before the ouch factor happens.

Titanium exhausts will start to glow much quicker than stainless or mild steel because the material is thinner (... because the material is stronger*).

Also an engine at idle wont have a dramatic difference in temp because of jetting! There is no load on the engine, its idling where it feels happy with the a/f mixture, until you go past optimum mixture... kind of like the thread where people were arguing that turning your bike off by shutting off the fuel and letting the bowl run dry will hurt your engine!
