I would get the 150R. I see them in this area new for under 4k on overstocks. It is more money to buy and maintain but it should be okay if you leave it somewhat stock. It will be more fun for the both of you to ride. | |

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment?? You will end up dumping a bunch of money in to the 150f before you a happy with the type of power you are looking for. By that time, you should have just bought the 150R. Don't get me wrong it will be fun power with the upgrades, but the suspension will be left in the dust. I suggest selling, and buying a 150r

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment?? The HP of these bikes is REALLY surprising. The 50's my kids raced (Polini & KTM) deliver about 12 HP. Plus the bikes are about 1/3 weight and the rider is about 1/4 the weight and only 6 years old!!!

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment?? ya the 150F is a trail bike. You think that is slow try riding a XR250. It feels exactly the same just bigger, hehe. But you put them on a rocky rutty rooted switch back mtb trail and its great. Anything that's not techical and WOT they aren't fun at all. But your coming from MX bikes also. Its going to take about as much work as it does turning a stock CRF50 to a mx bike. Lucky for you they already make a MX version so I would ride that until your wife out grows it and get sell it and get a 150R.

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment?? OK sounds like you got a lot of info from guys who don't own one..so I am going to give you my 2 cents. an 06 150 F will keep up with the 04 and 05s with a 175bb engines only makes a 225 kit that rocks. I have the 28mm flat slide but several others I know kept the stock carb and liked it. The next thing is as you mentioned getting rid of that cruise ship anchor chain and go with 428. DO NOT BUY A KIT you will pay twice as much as buying sprocket and chain (I went Renthal) For your wife assuming she is under 150 lbs the stock springs will be fine you need to change the fork oil. Next a buddy of mine bought a 2 bro pipe and that really helped. My bike has no problem lifting the front wheel in a low speed roll in 3rd gear and I weigh in at a slim trim 250+ Oh yeah cut that black rubber crap off the front forks I dont care what it does it looks gay as all get out.... Feel free to PM me and I would be happy to answer any questions.

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment?? FITZ, Do you have the 175BB kit in yours (or any other engine mods)? It would be nice to be able to lift the front wheel when the kids or I are trail riding this thing but for her it isn't a big deal. Maybe once she gets some time on it she will be ready for a little more. After all the rejetting I am much happier with the bike then I was. I agree and still think there are a lot of potential ponies in there wanting to get out. We haven't had it out in the dirt yet. I think it will be a really fun bike to ride but a modified 2-stroke 85 might have been a better choice for us?? I could have found a used one for half the price I paid for the 150F and added a bigger flywheel and some cylinder work to smooth out the power band. I would have ended up with a lighter, smaller and more powerful bike with better suspension...??? But, we just need to ride it in the dirt before I bash it too hard though

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment?? I have two 150F's and posted recently about installing a Engines Only 175cc BB kit. I have to say that in my experience everything everybody said in this thread is true. It's amazing how all that information fits together. The 150F is not right for everyone, to be sure, but if you have a mix of talent in your household and someone is a beginner, then the 150F is good to keep around because anyone can have fun on it. Mine with the BB kit (including Stage II cam, 28mm carb, other stuff) has, I'm told, 19 hp now. I can do wheelies like mad on it. The power to weight ratio is just right now. Still, it is never going to be a 150R, a bike which also is not right for everyone. Here's a video taken last year of me and a friend (we're old guys) on indentical 150F's that have been rejetted, snorkel removed, hi-flow air filter, and that's all, except one has a Pro Circuit pipe, and the other has the stocker with baffle removed. The point is that even stock 150F's with minor tinkering can be fun. Watch: Last edited by okemos; 05-26-2008 at 06:20 AM.

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment?? Hey, . . . don't let it get you down, . . . just swap a 5 horse into it with a Bordeaux cam, a Horstman rod, a Wiseco piston, a set of Hi-flo valves, an RLV pipe, and slap a Tillotson HL Alky carb with a BIG K&N on there, . . . you can have that sucker spinning 8 grand, pumping out 14 HP!!! When you get done you'll be able to spray all the way to Lansing!! And if you want to cut out a nice pattern in aluminum or steel, you've got your own water jet!!! . . . .
