Nope, Its the VIN all right. Many cars build for the US also have a different VIN compared to Euro spec cars. Must have something to do with regulation or homologation, not sure why.

Just got my first ZB last week, been riding bikes for over 25 years! My serial number ends with 0181. It rough as hell, has what appears to be a Elite 80 front wheel and two hundred rust holes in the tank. I'm trying to salvage the tank with jb weld and POR15 right now

The JB weld is just a temporary way to seal all the holes long enough for the tank cleaner to do the job and to keep the POR15 liner in while curing. NOt my idea of quality work or fun but the tank is THAT rough! I'll post pics here this afternoon to give you an idea. I bought the Zb from a mate for $500 with a Honda Ascot 500 which I already have running on the street (I also vinateg race one) and a pair of fox piggyback shocks that I just sold for $200 on ebay. The bike is rough but I have almost no $ in it at this point. I restored a 1972 Minitrail a few years ago but this is my first "modern" Honda 50. I'm pretty stoked to be able to ride it 7 miles to work each day too.
