Re: r6 or r1? hasn't been too many of those around here. a lot of the guys that buy bikes that haven't rode just ride through town a bunch trying to pick up girls lol....i live in a really small town one big long strip of road pretty much if they can make it there then they are set....everywhere outside of town is crazy curvy roads with pot holes that swallow cars

Re: r6 or r1? I have had them both, I was in the same situation that you are in. Bout the same age at the time. I have been ridden dirt bikes for ever. I worked at a yamha dealer. So I had pretty ridden just about everything out there. I still chose to start on a 600. I rode it for three months then bought a r1. If you can afford to do so, start on a used 600 at least for a few months. Just to learn the ways of the road. Its a whole new ball game. I am glad I went that route. I learned alot on the 600. And it made me a better ridder on the 1000. Alot like ridden the lites before the big 450's.

Re: r6 or r1? i think im gonna get some of my buddies to let me ride the r1 and the r6 back to back on some curvy roads to see which one i like better. horse power isn't a big concern to me, i mean the new 08 r6 is PLENTY fast enough. I just want something that will handle good and still be fun to ride.

Re: r6 or r1? get a gsxr 750! best of both worlds but if ur set on an r6 or r1 and its ur first bike id get an r6 i really think 600s r more fun theyre lighter and rev higher than the 1000s

Re: r6 or r1? i think i may go with the r6 the r1 is a fun thought i might go down that road some other time, but right now i think the 6 would suit me better, i will just have to lower it a lil bit, i think the 6 will handle tight turns better than the 1000. its gonna be a few months before i get a bike tho, im trying to finish up the front of my truck before i start worrying about a payment on a street bike...i will probably end up getting it in winter lol

Re: r6 or r1? I think you'll be plenty happy with a 600. Also, it cost a $hit load more to insure the bigger bikes like the 750's & 1000's.

Re: r6 or r1? Well if you go with a Yamaha with there financing you are only required to have liability insurance. At the time for me full coverage for the r1 would have been $3000 a year. I figured if I go down it would cost less to fix myself then make a claim. Liability was about $250 a year. The 750 is a great bike but everyone that mentioned it did not get the part where you work at a yamaha shop and that you want a yamaha. If you want a 750 you have to get a suzuki. Thats all you have to chose from. There is the discontinued ZX7R from kawi but that design is over two decades old, might as well get an intercepter. ha ha ha ha Last edited by roosterr1; 05-25-2008 at 01:31 PM.

Re: r6 or r1? i picked up on him working at yamaha...i'd take a gixxer 750 over an r6 and have ridden both...deals are out there i have seen people giving away new bikes cuz they cant handle them...if you shop around i bet he could find a zuk for the same good price

Re: r6 or r1? Any of the bikes listed are going to be a great bike. I currently build and maintain quite a few R6's R1's and a GSXR's for a bunch of racers. From a Mechanics point of view, the GSXR is easier to work on. Engine wise they all make great power but as with anything, power don't mean anything unless you can get it to the ground. The R6 does handle good right out of the box but they do need some work. R1, well it needed some help. The GSXR, yea well my supersport engine put out 192rwhp and it's a hoot to ride. Which ever bike you end up getting, you are going to have plenty fun on riding on the street.

Re: r6 or r1? Where did you get that information? Any bike that is financed is required to have full coverage insurance to protect the lien holder if you trash the bike then decide you don't want to make payments on a paperweight.

Re: r6 or r1? It is a revolving account (a credit card). The card company is called hsbc. I do belive that suzuki and kawasaki also use the same company. Some times they are offer 8.9% for the first two years after that it goes up to 21%, better pay off or refinace at that time. Any balance under $10,000 does not have to have any insurance. over $10,000 requiers liability only. Most states require some form of insurance. I know of this because I have done it twice.
