| Re: Yet another CA legal Panda! Well... ****. I got a letter in the mail from DMV, and they wanted me to fill out more forms for the Panda. I went in and talked to one of the clerks, and now they want me to fill out a TON of more stuff because apparently the guy I bought the bike from never even registered the bike in his name. He gave me a CHP inspection form because I didn't think he ever got it plated, but apparently he never even took the MSO in to DMV to get it titled. SO, now I'm stuck with a Panda, no MSO, and they are refusing to issue me a title because the MSO for the bike isn't anywhere to be found. grumble grumble grumble. I wonder if that guy on ebay has any of the plated Lifan frames still... I bet I could buy one and swap everything over to that frame, then get that done. Or, just sell it and build the Dax like I was planning. Anybody want a quasi-legal Panda? |

I'm honestly thinking that getting one of those Lifan frames and registering THAT, then swapping everything over is gonna be the way to go. At this point I'm not even sure if I wanna do it, though, since I've already got the Dax and it's plated, insured, and ready to build.

1. MSO 2. Another CHP inspection (why, I dunno) 3. Another bill of sale 4. Statement of Fact (??) from the previous owner explaining why the bike was never registered. It's basically bulls**t, and I tried emailing the guy I bought it from a few times and got no response. This is why I'm thinking that it'll be a lot quicker and easier to just buy one of those bare frames from ebay and swap everything onto it. Then I'll have the MSO and everything for that frame and it'll be legit. that, or I'll just sell it to somebody cheap and go build my Dax Last edited by mikev; 07-22-2008 at 02:43 PM.

After I got my bike's title transfered over, I noticed 1 digit on the vin was incorrect on my title. Luckily I got this done at AAA and all I needed to do was bring the bike in and have them verify the vin. When I brought the bike though she first said we don't do this... what is that? hahaha But, eventually I convinced her it was a real motorcycle. And, the good thing about these bikes are that they have the federal inspection plates on the frames.

| Re: Yet another CA legal Panda! Yeah, that's the part that pisses me off about it. There's nothing shady about the bike, it's a regular Jincheng Panda just like Brad, Drizz, Pete, Ernesto, and everybody else have in California. 100% legal, but because the guy was dumb (and I didn't do a good enough job checking everything) I'm gonna have to jump through hoops. |

| Re: Yet another CA legal Panda! Maybe you could try a different DMV. Then all you would need is the ebay MSO and doctor up the bill of sale and statement of facts? |

| Re: Yet another CA legal Panda! Try calling the DMV's toll free line or another DMV to see what they say (don't mention what your DMV told you). When I registered my old '04 GSXR600 two years ago, all I had was a MSO and bill of sale from the previous owner. Brought the paperwork along with the bike to the DMV and they didn't question it. All they checked for was to see if the VIN matched the paperwork, looked at the emissions sticker, and sent me on my way. They didnt ask why the previous owner never registered it (was a race bike). |

| Re: Yet another CA legal Panda! Wow, what a bummer and turn of events. (I had to look up what MSO was on google) Anyways, the sketchy way of doing the blank MSO might bite you in the end. How much are the registered Lifan frames going for? At this point, I would also not only consider the $ involved with getting it resolved but the time it's going to take you to get another CHP inspection and the lot of forms. Good luck and keep us posted. |

| Re: Yet another CA legal Panda! oh man, i'm so sorry to hear that. I hope it somehow works out for you. I also have to take my elite to the CHP to get inspected..bought it from out of state. but gotta fix it before i can do that. if you do end up selling it for cheap let me know...i'm looking for another one for my girl..and we'll deal with the headaches, plus she has AAA which handles almost EVERYTHING..have you tried that?... |
