Dan,

Bob and I spoke of this awhile back in the other forum and everyone thought we were full of beans. The single-piece cast chinese rear CT70 wheels are not safe. Honda has a steel insert for the lock ring for a good reason... You need to share this with others as somone is eventually going to hurt themselves.

On a more important note, great pics. I look forward to the videos in HD.

The resi should be in the rear on the shocks, but it really doesn't matter. If you like it, run it.

You might have noticed that I've really cut down my posting over there. Everything I did to my bike bike Bob would always have some what of a negative comment to me.. If I powder coated something, he would instantly tell folks that painting is a much better choice and PC wasn't as nice, if I installed a PRC engine, it wasn't as good and to be very carefull, etc... Why can't folks (especially moderators like Bob) just be happy for people that just want to have a little fun on the weekends riding their classics made their own way? I have never encouraged folks to ride recklessly and make careless mods that can hurt them, but somehow that's what people think I do, I do remember being warned about the cheesey wheels, but to be fair, I was warned about a lot of things on this bike that have actually performed quite well... The PRC front end is an incredible upgrade that has been flawless, I'm sure Bob (maybe you too) warned me about those too... I just think "warnings" in some way are very small digs, don't you think?

I put approx 2 thousand hard, fast miles on the cheap cast aluminum wheel in a couple of years, it wore out the same time as my tire did... I was told it would and it did... I also broke a piston in half in my Lfan too, The more time I spend on my bike I want to put better parts on it, like you guys..

So, I totally understand where you guys are coming from but then again when you're a moderator like Bob, it doesn't hurt to say, "Ya know what dude, good job, keep the posts coming"... Honsetly, the site became no fun for me at all.. I didn't get anything in return, just little digs (or warnings) here and there...

Peace

Dan

Dan,
I feel like the only guy on the planet who is into CT70 restorations but seeing your bike makes me really want a resto mod. I think it looks very clean and tastefull given the amount of changes.

I always find issues that need sorted out after that much work, chin up man, I would be very proud to say I built that bike.

I would totally be into a complete resotoration but in the end I really want to ride these bikes more than just around the campground and on the streets more than 35mph... My whole deal is that I love to see the look of guys faces when they see my little CT70.. To me that's what it's all about, plus the CT70 is what I learned on when I was a kid.. I wanted a two stroke soooo bad but I was stuck riding a clapped out 69' CT70... I'm the first guy to appreciate a quality stock restoration, but I'm not that guy...

I'm knee deep with my "wifes bike" right now... I'm gonna get the Lifan 150 that you have...

How's that working out for you?

Re: CT70 GPX160 intall

Dan,
I've been riding it like I stole it but did run into a few things:

1. I am still running the stock ZB50 pipe so I had to rejet like mad and am still fishing around a little.

2. With my stator swap, I had a little oil weeping past the stator plate screws, turned out to be the honda and Lifan screws were ever so slightly different. I did not notice until I put them head to head (taper and headsize).

3. I had oil leaks from the oil cooler bypass. The hose was brittle and the hose clamps were not that great. I replaced it with AN fittings.

I burried the speedo on the first run and know it has much more to give. Since I don't have experience with the larger motors I don't have a baseline but overall I am very pleased.

I will say I am shocked at how hard it is to kick. I'm not new to hard kicking bikes (early model CR500/CRF450X) but this thing hurts when it kicks back.

Back to your thread, the fact that you actually ride your bike until stuff starts to wear out is commendable.

Re: CT70 GPX160 intall

Any new updates on your build Dan? That has got to be one of the best looking ct70 I have ever seen.I like your style on it.I like keeping the body of a bike or car original looking but the rest is to be tricked out for sure. You are like the Chip Foose of ct70s lol.
Any pics on of your red one too?
